Rheumatology Practice Management is proud to announce a new feature titled NORM Member Profile, where we will highlight various National Organization of Rheumatology Managers (NORM) members, giving you the opportunity to learn about their backgrounds, personal lives, and contributions to the rheumatology community.
In this first member profile, we discuss the life and achievements of NORM member Judith “Judy” Stovall. Judy is a certified medical practice manager at NEMG/Arthritis & Rheumatism in Trumball, CT, and has worked in the field of rheumatology for more than 20 years.
In addition to Judy’s full-time commitment to her profession, she serves those around her in many capacities. Her greatest commitment is to God and to her family. Judy and her husband, Marcus, are as close as 2 peas in a pod, and where you see her, you see him. Together, they have been an inspiration to numerous individuals. Judy is also the mother of 3 beautiful children and is affectionately known as “G-Ma” to her 2 precious grandchildren.
Judy and Marcus serve as co-pastors at the Miracle Faith World Outreach Church in Bridgeport, CT, where Judy has been a pastor for more than 10 years. Previously, she served as a youth leader, where she worked with teens and young adults. Mentoring is one of Judy’s passions, and she has volunteered in the City of Bridgeport schools, as well as in her church and community.
Judy is a motivational speaker and has presented at NORM annual conferences for the past few years. She is also a member of the NORM Education Committee. Each year Judy has worked with the committee to develop presentations that have been a great asset to the organization. She has also been a NORM Board Member for the past 2 years.
Judy has shared many moments of laughter with the NORM membership and tries to affect everyone around her with the “medicine of laughter.” At the 2015 NORM annual conference, she presented a skit called “Many Hats Fit One Head,” which highlighted the various functions that rheumatology managers may operate in at any given moment. Her presentation is still being referenced to this day.
The positive impact that Judy has on those around her was perfectly expressed by Sa’Vonna Staton, a practice administrator who met her several years ago at a NORM conference. “Judy Stovall is a fun, loving, generous person who can light up a room with just her presence. She has brought so much joy to my life and I am honored to call her my friend. Through NORM, I have established a relationship that I will always cherish.”
Recently, Judy was invited to Hartford, CT, where she was honored as the recipient of the 2018 Humanitarian Award for her commitment to excellence, extraordinary leadership, and devoted services to the community and beyond.
Approximately 1 year ago, Judy started a group called “Universal Sisters,” which is a morning inspirational phone conference line where women from all over the world call in and receive encouragement, prayer, and support. She notes, “At some point in life, we are all faced with ups and downs, challenges, and struggles. We can’t be everything to everybody, but we all can do our part. Sometimes, when you connect with others, you realize that your story is their story. Your hurt is familiar and you are not alone!”
Judy and Marcus are also the co-founders of “Investing in Your Marriage.” Together, they teach classes and offer biblically based counseling to strengthen and empower married couples and those who are planning to be married.
Judy wears many hats in her professional life as well as in her personal life, and is an inspiration to all who know her. We are very grateful for all of her hard work and dedication.
